Played in and started all 53 games … Led the nation in hit by pitches per game (.60) … finished 16th nationally, and third in the MVC, in on-base percentage (.539) … placed 17th nationally, and second in the Valley, in runs per game (.87) … finished 22nd nationally, and second in the MVC, in stolen bases (27) … broke SIU’s 25-year old single-season stolen base record with her 26th stolen base vs. Valparaiso (5/1) … ranks 21st nationally, and second in the Valley, in walks per game (.78) … Broke the school record for career runs scored and her 165 career runs are the second-most in MVC history … her 27 stolen bases were as many as she had in the previous three seasons combined … reached base safely in 46 of SIU’s 53 games … drew a walk in 40 of Southern’s 53 games and tallied at least one hit in 30 games … led the league in walks (40) and hit by pitches (30) … set the school's career and single-season hit by pitch records.

Preseason All-MVC
Played in and started all 21 games … slashed .260/.493/.420 … led the Missouri Valley Conference in total walks (23) and finished fifth in the league in on-base percentage (.493) … ranked 28th in the NCAA in hit by pitches per game (.33) … reached base in 19 of SIU’s 21 games, which included an active streak of 15-straight games … tallied three multi-hit games … six of her 13 hits went for extra bases … drew at least one walk in 10 of SIU’s 21 games and drew multiple walks in five games … tied her career-high with three walks in SIU’s win over Fordham (2/21) … went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Southern’s victory over Nicholls State (2/16) … went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI against Monmouth (2/15) … finishes her career ranked in the top-15 in school history in hit by pitches (2nd; 57), on-base percentage (3rd; .456), runs scored (9th; 116) and doubles (11th; 32).

Tied for first in the MVC in fielding percentage and was the only second baseman nationally with a 1.000 fielding %. … led the league in hit by pitches (18) and ranked seventh nationally in hit by pitches per game (.39) … tallied 12 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games.. had a 17-game reached base streak … her .486 on-base percentage not only led the team but was the fourth-best in the MVC and ranks sixth in school history … it was also the highest single-season on-base percentage by a second baseman in school history … her 46 runs scored ranked fourth in the MVC and are the fourth-most in a single-season in school history … finished first in conference-only games in both runs scored (25) and on-base percentage (.580) … went 4-for-4 against nationally-ranked Drake (3/16).

Named the MVC’s Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Saluki to take home the award since its inception in 2015 … Also earned All-MVC First Team honors and nabbed a spot on the All-Defensive Team for the second-straight season … Led the Valley in hit by pitches (21) and ranked seventh nationally in hit by pitches per game (.42) … Finished top-10 in the MVC in seven statistical categories including runs scored (2nd, 38), doubles (t-5th, 11), slugging percentage (8th, .529), on-base percentage (2nd, .474), hits (10th, 57), total bases (10th, 81) and sac bunts (3rd, 8) …  Led the team in batting average (.346), on-base percentage (.474), runs scored (38) and tied for the team lead in doubles (11) … Her on-base percentage (.482) was the third-highest in a single-season for an Saluki with at least 150 at-bats and was tied for the 13th-best nationally by a sophomore… Her 22 hit by pitches were the third-most in a single-season in program history …Earned MVC Player of the Week for the first time in her career after she hit .556 with 10 RBIs and three home runs in four games against Missouri State and Bradley (4/23).

Appeared in 57 games and started in 54... Hit .284 with 20 RBI and seven steals... Hit .344 against conference teams... Tied for fifth on the team in hits with 40... Seven doubles were third best on the team... Was hit by a pitch 10 times to lead the team and the second most in the MVC... Struck out just 16 times in 141 at-bats... On-base percentage of .389 was third best on the team... Had 15 sacrifice hits, the second most on the team... Second in the Valley in sacrifice bunts with 10... Was only caught stealing three times... Recorded only 2 errors on 193 defensive chances for a fielding percentage of .990, the highest on the team of any non-catcher... Recorded eight multi-hit games... Had three RBI against Massachusetts on 2/18... Had seven multi-RBI games... Went 3-3 with two RBI against Illinois State on 4/2... From 3/11 to 4/12, hit .463 with eight RBI and five doubles... Doubled in three straight games from 3/26 to 3/29.

PRIOR TO SIU

Vermejan earned All-State honors in 2015 at Lemont high school, where she was also a three-time All-Conference, two-time All-Area and two-time team MVP selection. She holds school records for both triples and runs scored. Her Beverly Bandits club team placed seventh at the 2015 Nationals and was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation. At Lemont, she has hit 21 home runs and 36 doubles in her three-year career. She hit .567 last year, which includes a .640 average with runners in scoring position.

Full name is Madeline Vermejan... Born Jan 27, 1998 in Downers Grove, Ill. to Tony and Gail Vermejan... Father works in healthcare administration... Mother is a director of operations... Has two sisters... Attended the same high school as Clayton Fejedelem, a safety for the Cincinnatti Bengals and Ethan Pocic an offensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks... Djordje Mihailovic, a midfielder for the Chicago Fire and the United States Under-19 National Team, also attended her high school.
