How exactly to keep cool when the heat index surpasses 100 degrees is a highly debatable issue. Some logically argue that cool is the way to go. If that's your bent, we've got you covered with fresh fruit popsicles and ice cold fresh juices from Amanda's Frozen Fruit Bars. She's also got one of our favorites - the icy cold lemonade with plenty of sweet peach pulp will replenish your hydration and electrolytes when water just doesn't cut it! Country Girls Creamery and G&M Goat Farm have ice cream and gelato respectively, and this week, G&M will be unveiling their brand new flavor: rum raisin!
Others argue hot is the way to go - that breaking a sweat is the surest way to relief from the heat. If that's the case for you, now is a great time of year to stock up on hot peppers. You'll find jalapeno, cayenne, banana, habanero, tabasco, Thai chili (aka birdseye) and more at our markets. And those sneaky Shishito with their variable heat (most peppers are sweet, but every now and then, you get a spicy one!). For those die hards out there, we also serve hot coffee all year long at the welcome tent. And don't forget, with the addition of Varino's Italian Sausage to the Tuesday lineup, we've got other hot food options available. We've all missed Isabel while she's been on vacation, but she'll be back with tamales, breakfast burritos and salsas on Saturday September 1st, and it'll still be plenty hot then.
PICKS OF THE WEEK:Honey
You hear people say that local honey is better for you, but why? Well, studies have shown that local farm fresh honey provides more nutrients, including antioxidants, than traditionally raised foods. And people say that since local honey is made with nectar from local flowers, and incorporates pollen from local plants, that that subtle exposure helps to alleviate allergies to those very same plants. Not to mention fresh, raw honey is more potent and tastier, and supports your local bee farms (called apiaries) and local bee populations! As a healing remedy, honey can help in a variety of ways. It provides an energy boost as it's a good source of carbohydrates that your body needs for energy. Honey can relieve morning sickness, aid in sore throats and laryngitis, and provide relief for arthritis, upset stomachs, and bad breath. All in all, honey is really good for you! Ask your Crescent City Farmers Market honey vendors for other ways to use honey on a daily basis.

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:Burg's Bees
Gerard Burg is an enthusiast of many things, and an expert on at least one... honey! Mr. Jerry has been with the market since 2014 and started beekeeping since the early 1980s in St. Tammany Parish with only two hives. He decided to get serious about bees upon retirement and hit the ground running in 2009 on land in Tangipahoa Parish. At his high of 40 hives, beekeeping activities were significantly impacted in August of 2016 when Burg lost nearly half of his beehives to the floods that devastated many areas of our state. Our resident beekeeper now has approximately 35 hives and counting. While honey might be a regular grocery item you are used to picking up at the store, honey is a seasonal item, just like strawberries or even eggs, at the market. Bees require the nectar produced by flowers to make honey, which is a primary source of food for the overwintering colony. Honeybees don't forage in the winter when the plants are not producing nectar and pollen. In warm weather (spring and summer), foraging worker honey bees collect nectar from flowers within a four-mile radius of their hive. In our area, the honey harvest may take place between late April until late September when plants and trees are flowering. Basically, you harvest what you can, leave some for the bees, sell what you have, and wait until next year for more. Jerry also likes to make mead with his honey, which is pretty tasty. Ask him about it at the market tomorrow!
TUESDAY'S GREEN PLATE SPECIAL:Rimon

RECIPE OF THE WEEK:Squash Stuffed Bell Peppers
Check out this seasonal
stuffed bell pepper recipe by MUO staff Caryn Blair. She was last seen serving this dish at the Broadmoor Improvement Association's Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Communities fair. It was a big hit with the crowd! You can try different types of squash (summer zucchini or winter butternut) and different types of peppers. Even switching up green and red bells add visual interest to the platter, and some flavor variety to choose from. Serve alongside Market fresh salad, and you've got a complete meal.

Ingredients
3 bell peppers cut in half lengthwise, insides removed
¾ cups rice
1 ½ cups water
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup large yellow onion finely chopped
1 cup squash or zucchini, chopped into ¼"- ½" cubes
1 tomato chopped into ½" cubes
2 tablespoons vegetable broth or water
2 teaspoons Creole seasoning
1 teaspoon black pepper
1- ½ teaspoons salt or to taste
Directions
Prepare rice as it states on the package.
Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the yellow onions and cook until translucent.
Add the squash, seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until squash begins to brown. (Add broth or water if needed.)
When rice is finished cooking, add it and chopped tomatoes to the pan. Stir and set aside.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Cut the bell peppers lengthwise, remove their insides, and place cut-side-down on a lined baking sheet. Bake in the oven for five minutes.
Remove peppers from the oven and allow to cool. Flip them over and fill generously with squash and rice mixture.
Want to escape the heat this August? Come CHILL with us! Bubbles + Business will be hosting a very ICY meeting at the Ice Pit. Come enjoy frozen beverages and toasty treats while enjoying some of our entertaining surprises along the way!
Don't forget to wear your best coat for a chance to win a contest! We'll make sure the Ice Pit is nice and chilly so don't forget to bundle up with all of your trendiest winter attire that you hardly get to wear during a NOLA winter.
B+B was conceptualized with the idea that just as bubbles rise to the top of champagne, we should celebrate the ones around us who help others to rise. Along with no paid admission price to the event and complimentary champs-noshes, an honoree is selected that exudes superior creativity and success by setting the pace for the B+B group to keep pushing individualism along the journey to the measure of each member's personal success.

Washed Ashore Sculptures Land at Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Audubon Zoo
Giant Aquatic Sculptures Made From Plastic Pollution Make Aquarium Debut
In celebration of World Oceans Day, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is announcing its latest conservation initiative: "Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea.'' This limited-time special exhibition features larger-than-life aquatic animal sculptures crafted from plastic trash collected from beaches and designed to educate a global audience about the threat that plastic pollution poses for the ecosystems of the world's oceans and waterways.
Made entirely of debris removed from Pacific Coast beaches, the "Washed Ashore'' traveling exhibit offers visitors a powerful, visual reality of the proliferation of pollution in the world's waterways through marine animal representations that use thousands of pieces of plastic in every color of the rainbow.
Examples include sculptures of a 10-foot Sea Jelly, a 10-foot-long leaping Marlin named "Flash,'' a 1,500-pound Great White Shark named "Greta'' and 12 other large aquatic animals. As part of the exhibit, Sebastian James the Tufted Puffin and SeeMore the Sea Lion Pup will be on display at Audubon Zoo.
"Plastics have entered into all marine habitats and every level of the ocean food chain,'' said Rich Toth, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas managing director.
''Whales, fish, zooplankton and numerous other animals are eating our trash. Approximately 80 percent of marine debris comes from land-based sources - streets to streams to rivers to oceans.''

Come enjoy a glass of wine - visit with old friends and meet some new ones - spend time with like-minded women who have a desire to support each other and collaborate to improve ourselves, others, and the communities in which we live. Events are held each month on the third Wednesday. There are no dues or fees to participate.
In 2011, my friend Antonio Molesini and I took our first group of Swirl customers to Tuscany and Antonio's hometown of Cortona. I fell in love with that quintessential medieval hilltop town with its ancient Etruscan history and for the next 5 years, it was our base for exploring the Tuscan wine regions, villages and towns. Montepulciano, Montalcino, Chianti Classico, Cortona, Pienza, Florence, Greve, Siena and more became our regular stops, as we enjoyed the regional food, the generous people and of course the local wines.
Needless to say, Tuscany will forever have a special place in my heart and it's easy for me to find an excuse to showcase its beautiful wines. So this week you can "Drink like a Tuscan" at our Wednesday Night Flights, we'll do a classic (and super delicious) Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a beautiful Sangiovese rosé, a Chianti Classico and the star of the show - the baby Tenuta San Guido Sassacaia, Guidalberto 2015( JS 94, WE 93, W&S 92) If you'd like a little something to snack on with your wine, resident cheesemonger Casey Foote will select and present a regional pairing plate ($10 with flight, $15 without the flight). No standing in line for our Wednesday flights - you sit at a table, we come to you and pour tableside complete with lots of educational info on what you are drinking. The flight of 4 wines is $20 - reservations are highly recommended as we can only seat walk-ins if space allows. All wines are available for purchase to drink at Swirl or you can take them to go.
Class Policies: -As with all of our tastings and classes we ask that you not wear perfume, cologne or any other strong scents that could interfere with the wine's aromas for you and those around you. -Refunds can be made with a minimum 3 days advance notice. Credit cannot be given towards future classes.

Founded in 2006, the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation's mission is to strengthen Louisiana's hospitality industry through support of individuals within the community. We do this by supporting workforce development programs directly related to our industry; providing access to culinary and hospitality education; working to ensure a positive perception of Louisiana's hospitality industry; and providing financial assistance and/or guidance to people in the hospitality industry during times of crisis.
Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed over $1.6 million in support of its mission in the form of community grants, education grants, and hospitality worker crisis grants. These funds are raised through charitable donations and signature fundraising events including Horses, Hops and Cops, the Fidelity Bank Champions Club at Zurich Classic, the Gold Medal Chefs Gala, and other special events.

No. We will have a list with attendee names.

Vieux Carré by Tennessee WilliamsThe Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans
TWTC kicks off its FOURTH SEASON with an ALL STAR CAST. Set at 722 Toulouse Street, VIEUX CARRÉ follows a young writer, not unlike Williams himself, who arrives one winter in the Crescent City for the first time and falls in love with the fabled French Quarter. It's a dangerous affair, though, and one that involves ambiguous love triangles, desperate longing, and heartbreak. Will the boy be able to navigate his way out of the fog teeming with quarter characters, starving society ladies, hustlers, and buskers? Renowned jazz vocalist Stephanie Jordan created Jazz Pilates which is set to the recorded music of major jazz composers like John Coltrane, Kidd Jordan, and Kent Jordan. Stephanie Jordan developed her Jazz Pilates technique after receiving her certification from Wise Body Pilates. Jazz Pilates integrates traditional Pilates and dance movements with jazz to enhance the mind-body-spirit connection. It is a muscle lengthening and strengthening program designed to improve balance and transform the body so that it functions at optimal capacity.
Jordan believes that the whole fitness movement is too focused on "Buy a membership, join a spa, purchase this equipment and you'll be beautiful." Jazz Pilates participants are able to use what they were born with-their bodies. The New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old US Mint provides the perfect venue to allow French Market District/ New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park visitors to create movements that is beneficial to both physical and mental health-in a mere 45 - minutes to an hour. Participants are introduced to the works of major jazz composers and performers while developing a lifelong physical fitness and emotional wellness through arts and fitness integration.
With all of the distractions in the world, the human body naturally retains the basic urge to create movement, to physically "get a lot of stuff out." Jazz Pilates is designed to improve balance and transform the body so patrons may function at optimal capacity while working, playing, or just living life to the fullest.
Please bring your own fitness mat and arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins.

If caterpillars are creeping and termites are swarming, it must be time for Audubon Nature Institute's 2018 season of "Wild Nights'' and "Insect Adventures.''
Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium is once again offering opportunities for up-close looks - during the day and after dark - at the amazing diversity of arthropods living among us.
"Ever wonder which marvelous moths and beautiful beetles are out and about at night,'' asks Zack Lemann, Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium's Animal and Visitor Programs Manager. "And what about the darting dragonflies and active ants that fly and crawl about during hot summer days? Then don't miss this chance to learn about all the fascinating bugs that inhabit south Louisiana.''
The insect safaris take place in Audubon Wilderness Park located at Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center in Lower Coast Algiers and Audubon Louisiana Nature Center in eastern New Orleans adjacent to Joe Brown Park.
Registration for "Insect Adventures'' includes an aerial net, while "Wild Nights'' guests receive a night headlamp and batteries. All participants receive a small insect collection kit and an exclusive "Wild Nights Insect Adventures'' collectible water bottle.
"Insect Adventures'' are held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., while "Wild Nights'' take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Meals are not provided.
The cost is $60 for Audubon members and $70 for non-members (plus sales taxes). Guests must be six years of age or older. The adult-to-child ratio is three children per adult.

The Victory Belles are a delightful vocal trio performing the music of the 1940s, serenading audiences at The National WWII Museum and across the globe. The music of the 1940s brought hope and joy to our GIs and those on the Home Front alike-and the Victory Belles keep that tradition alive in rich, three-part harmony. Their repertoire includes all the treasured gems of the WWII era plus patriotic classics including a musical salute to each branch of the US armed forces.
