The Digitization 201 webinar series is a national education program of the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts provided with support from grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the William Penn Foundation.


 

In conversation, CCAHA Senior Paper Conservator Heather Hendry and CCAHA Manager of Digital Imaging Maggie Downing, will discuss common condition issues to look for in special collections and tips for handling original materials both during and after digitization.


About the Speakers:

Maggie Downing, Manager of Digital Imaging, CCAHA

As Manager of Digital Imaging, Maggie Downing is responsible for assessing and tracking imaging projects at CCAHA. These include single document scans, the digitization of full books and special collections, and printed facsimiles of fragile materials. She meets with clients to evaluate digitizing options, provides estimates and proposals, and assists with image processing.

Maggie joined the staff in 2018 after working with the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Granger Collection historical image library in New York. She received a B.F.A. in Photography from New York University and an M.A. in Art History from the City College of New York.

Heather Hendry, Senior Paper Conservator, CCAHA

As Senior Paper Conservator, Heather Hendry meets with clients, assesses condition and treatment needs, documents findings in reports, and treats a wide range of objects, from parchment to printed materials. She also develops and presents targeted preservation education workshops for institutions.

Heather is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC).

Prior to joining the staff of CCAHA in 2015, Heather maintained a private practice outside of Philadelphia for five years. She also worked as a paper conservator at the Canadian Conservation Institute, the Yale Center for British Art, and Harvard University Libraries’ Weissman Preservation Center. She completed conservation internships at the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the National Gallery of Canada. Heather received a MA in Art Conservation, specializing in Paper Conservation, from Queen’s University in Canada. She received her BFA from the University of Lethbridge in Canada.

Digitization 201 continues CCAHA’s series of focused webinars that highlight specific topics related to digitization project planning and completion. These Digitization 201 webinars will tap into expertise at CCAHA in areas of conservation and fundraising, to be presented in a conversation format. Each webinar will be approximately 20-30 minutes and presented monthly through the end of the year (registration required). Sessions are recorded in order to be viewed as a series or according to specific subject relevant to you.
