ICA - Art Conservation for the Nation
About us
ICA - Art Conservation (ICA) was founded in 1952 as the first nonprofit regional conservation center in the nation, providing professional art conservation services for paintings, paper, textiles, and objects of all kinds. We also provide fine art transportation and climate-controlled storage services to clients. ICA serves museums, libraries, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, corporations, and private individuals, as we work to preserve the artistic and cultural heritage of this region. Each year ICA undertakes about 350 conservation projects for clients ranging from major art museums to small town historical societies, and from large government bodies, like the City of Cleveland and the State of Ohio, to small house museums and individual collectors. In addition, ICA reaches out to more than 2000 individuals annually through our educational programming for heritage professionals, students, collectors, and the general public.

The Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF48) and community partner ICA-Art Conservation are proud to announce the film: MINTED. A renegade group of outsider artists is thrust into the global limelight when they embrace a powerful new technology but must reckon with the controversies that threaten to collapse the wild world of NFTs. Join Minted's Nicholas Bruckman (Director/Producer/Writer) & Shawn Hazelett (Producer/Writer) for a conversation about their film, NFTs, and the art world. Join us Wednesday, April 3, at 10:30 EST for a conversation with the filmmakers of MINTED. This event is free but registration is required. https://bit.ly/3PB3fxu

A recent article in AIC Journal discusses a type of spring stretcher for paintings, designed by Richard Buck, the Director of ICA - Art Conservation in the 1950s. The stretcher used an off-the-shelf coating for the stainless steel stretcher springs. Sometimes the coating includes cadmium, and sometimes zinc as a sacrificial (protective) coating, while the zinc corrosion is non-toxic, the cadmium corrosion produces a toxic cadmium salt. This is a known issue, not new. If you have questions, we have an information sheet, please email us. info@ica-artconservation.org. You can also find the information on our website.: https://lnkd.in/eq6dMVqV

Thank you to the The Callahan Foundation for their support of ICA - Art Conservation in their Fall 2023 grant cycle. ICA received a grant to support the work of Marika Kesler, ICA's new textile conservator, during her first year in the lab. Here's a little video of Marika explaining a method for lace storage. #icaart #artconservation #ArtConservation4theNation
