Lindsey Graham sets state fundraising record with $3.9M reelection haul in fourth quarter

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham set a state fundraising record after raising $3.9 million for his reelection campaign in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The fundraising amount surpasses the state’s previous record, also set by Graham earlier this year, of $3.3 million raised in a quarter.

“We are floored by the record-breaking support from our grassroots army,” the Graham campaign said in a statement announcing the haul this week. “South Carolinians are incredibly grateful that Senator Graham is leading the fight to confirm a record number of conservative judges, to keep the U.S. economy booming, and to keep Americans safe by defeating our enemies abroad.”

The South Carolina Republican has been a vocal critic of the impeachment process in the House and has promised a speedy Senate trial that will end with the president’s acquittal.

“The best thing for the American people is to end this crap as quickly as possible, to have a trial in the Senate, bipartisan acquittal of the president. And on Feb. 4, when the president comes into the House chamber to deliver the State of the Union, he will have been acquitted by the Senate,” Graham said earlier this month.

He is set to face off against Democrat challenger Jamie Harrison, former chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, in November. A poll released last month suggests that Graham is facing a tight race, leading his challenger by only 2 points.
