Update -3:40 p.m, 10-9-20:

ECUA Sanitation Collection in Escambia County

Between Monday, September 28, and Saturday, October 3, ECUA sanitation collection trucks collected 3,764.59 tons of garbage from our customers in Escambia County. The previous week, crews collected 3,745.49 tons of garbage. Overall in September 2020, ECUA crews collected a total of 9,927 tons of garbage compared to 5,675.96 tons of garbage collected in September 2019. Beginning the week of October 12:

• Sanitation operations will return to normal in Escambia County. Garbage trucks will collect only garbage cans. Recycling trucks will collect recycling cans and deliver the recyclables to the MRF to be processed. If recycling loads are found to be too contaminated they will be disposed of in the Landfill.
• Repairs to the Material Recycling Facility have progressed well and we are resuming processing operations with a “soft re-start” by processing recyclables collected by our ECUA sanitation crews. We urge our recycling customers to be mindful of what they place in the recycling cans and to check our website for the most current list of accepted items.
• Yard trash trucks will resume picking up limbs and branches as well as bags or cans of yard trash. The yard trash crews will be directed to pick up only “green” limbs and branches, that appear to be freshly cut and are within normal ECUA yard trash collection limits. Any piles of “brown” limbs and branches are considered storm debris and will not be collected by ECUA crews.

• Bulk waste collection trucks will resume the collection of bulk waste. However, the bulk waste crews will be directed not to pick up any items which appear to be storm debris. No building materials, carpet, fencing, or other storm-related debris will be collected.

ECUA Sanitation Collection in Santa Rosa County:

• A reminder that in Santa Rosa County, residential sanitation collections have been back on normal schedule for garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Yard waste must be bundled per normal guidelines. Bulk Item collections are available for regular bulk items, NOT storm debris. Customers are asked to call Customer Service at 476-0480 to schedule a pick-up. Storm debris is being collected by Santa Rosa County. Please check their website for information.

Update -2:40 p.m, 9-24-20:

The Boardwalk at the ECUA Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility was not severely damaged by Hurricane Sally but is impassable due to a significant amount of downed trees and vegetation. Consequently, the Boardwalk is now closed to public access while inspections and assessments are performed, and the considerable clean-up effort is completed.

Update -11:20 a.m, 9-24-20:

We are issuing a reminder that storm debris is being collected by contractors working on behalf of Escambia County and that ECUA is not picking up construction or building debris, whether bagged or loose. Construction and building materials are never items that are collected as part of the ECUA residential sanitation service. Update -2:25 p.m, 9-22-20:

• The separately-issued Precautionary Boil Water Notice –PBWN- for the Kings Road Subdivision has been lifted.
• In Escambia County: Sanitation collection is back on normal schedule for garbage collection. Recycling collections are on hold; Yard waste collections are limited and we ask that customers bag their yard waste or place it in a designated yard waste can. We are using yard waste trucks to collect excess bagged garbage while our garbage trucks are being used to pick up and empty garbage cans. The separate trucks will not necessarily be collecting from your home at the same time. We are also resuming pickup of usual bulk items if they are placed at the curb. This is for usual bulk household items and NOT for household storm debris. Storm debris is being coordinated and picked up by contractors working on behalf of Escambia County. • In Santa Rosa County: Beginning on Thursday, September 24, our residential sanitation collections will be back on normal schedule for garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Yard waste must be bundled per normal guidelines. Yard Waste must be bundled for collection. Storm debris will be collected by Santa Rosa County. Please check their website for information.
• Our Recycling Facility sustained approximately $800K of damage, which is substantial and will require some time for recovery. The building contractor is already on site, has completed inspections, and is ready to begin rehabilitation work. At this time, our early estimates point to having the facility back in service at the end of October.

ECUA phones are finally back in service but are experiencing an extremely high volume, which may make it difficult to get through. Update -11:50 a.m, 9-20-20:

As residents work to clean up their properties and put storm debris out for collection, whether by City or County contractors, we urge you to please remember to place all debris well away from your water meter. This will help protect it from being damaged or impaired by the mechanical equipment used to collect the debris. Thank you!

Update -2:20 p.m, 9-18-20:

We ask all residents to make sure that their garbage cans are not full of storm water. Please take a few minutes to check them and empty them out. The water makes them too heavy for the automated truck arm to pick them up. Thank you!

Update - 5:35 p.m, 9-16-20:

• Sanitation collections will resume for ECUA customers in Escambia County on Thursday, Sept. 17. We will pick up Tuesday's garbage routes on Thursday. Wednesday's collections on Friday, and Thursday & Friday collections will both be picked up on Saturday until the week's collections are caught up. Recycling and Yard waste collections are still on hold at this time.

• Collections in Santa Rosa County are also resuming for regular Thursday garbage collections only. Recycling and Yard waste collections are also on hold at this time.

• Customers in both counties are advised that we will do our best to maximize our collections but will be limited if streets are blocked due to downed trees, power lines, or flooding. We will make note of these streets and try to come back later, though it may not be on the same day.

• All ECUA business offices will re-open Thursday, September 17, 2020.

Sanitation collections for ECUA customers in Escambia County for Wednesday, Sept. 16, have been canceled. There are no scheduled collections in Santa Rosa County on Wednesday. Information on the resumption of collections will be posted after the re-opening of the Perdido and Central landfills is determined by their respective county. Residents are encouraged to visit the ECUA website or local media sources for updates.

All Sanitation collections scheduled for today, Monday, September 14, for ECUA customers in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties will be conducted as planned. Where possible, we encourage our customers to secure their cans in an enclosed structure (i.e. garage) or to an outside fixed structure after collection is completed.
