Beltway Bustos interferes in IA-02 primary

May 6, 2019

The DCCC is up to their old tricks, intervening in the IA-02 primary to push out a progressive millennial woman in favor of their preferred candidate, career politician and failed statewide candidate Rita Hart.

Over the weekend, progressive Iowa City businesswoman Veronica Tessler suddenly and mysteriously dropped out of the Democratic primary, just days after Senator Kevin Kinney. Neither gave much indication why they decided against running for the open seat, but today we have our explanation. DCCC Chairwoman Cheri “Beltway” Bustos posted a photo on Instagram of herself at the Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch, seated right next to Rita Hart. It seems the DCCC is clearing the field in anticipation of Hart’s announcement. Beltway politics at its worst!

NRCC Comment: “The last thing Iowans want is a D.C. politician like Cheri Bustos telling them who they can vote for, but that won’t stop the DCCC from playing favorites in the primary. Rita Hart is exactly the type of candidate Beltway Bustos and the DCCC love – a liberal career politician the socialist Democrats can count on to vote as she’s told.” – NRCC Spokesman Bob Salera
