Republicans call out Rep. Torres Small during "Stop the Madness"
New Mexico Republican Party Chairman Steve Pearce and a handful of supporters gathered with signs outside Rep. Xochitl Torres Small office, calling on her to pick a side in the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
"Declare yourself, Xochitl. Make yourself known. You gotta take one side or the other. Are you for impeachment or are you for getting on to the business of the country?" said Pearce.
The impeachment inquiry comes after Trump withheld $250 million in military assistance to Ukraine and asked the Ukrainian president to investigate political rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.
Chair of the Democratic Party of Valencia County Logan Jeffers thinks Torres Small is waiting on all the facts.
"Xochitl, from what I know, she's always been very intellectual. Like, 'Give me the facts before I decide something,'" said Jeffers.
During the Stop the Madness event, supporters of the Republican Party said they don't believe her.
"We already have the whole transcript. What's the second whistleblower gonna whistleblow about? You got the transcript! That was so ludicrous when I saw that. Let's bring on a third whistleblower. Let's read it in Spanish, maybe. I don't know," said Pearce.
Pearce says the congresswoman is playing both sides for political gain.
"I saw too many people from both parties take one stance in Washington among their friends there and come back here and try to tell the people they were somebody different," said Pearce.
Pearce says he'll continue to hold the Democrats' feet to the fire until they stop pursuing an impeachment inquiry into Trump.
Torres-small is in New Mexico today, but would not talk to us on camera. Her office says she's still considering whether to send a statement about the accusations.
