A group of New Jersey residents held a rally Thursday in support of President Donald Trump.
The group called the event “Stop the Madness” and gathered outside New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim’s office in Toms River to express their support for the president and their criticism of the impeachment inquiry against him.
The demonstrators, mostly Republican, are calling out New Jersey’s Democratic representatives like Kim, Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who support impeachment. They say that the lawmakers should be focusing more on New Jersey and less on the investigation.
“We’re very concerned about the direction in which the United States Congress is going in. Very concerned about our representatives who are no longer representing us,” says Steven Rogers, president of the group America Winning Coalition. “They're not representing the state of New Jersey. They're not representing the best interest of the people of this country. And there's only one man who's doing that and that's the president of the United States."
The event was hosted by the group Trump Victory.
A new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind found that the residents of the Garden State are split when it comes to impeaching the president. The poll, released Tuesday, found that 50% of New Jerseyans support impeachment, while only 36% are opposed. Twelve percent said that they were unsure and 3% refused to answer.
