EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In accordance with Board Policy AE and AEA, staff is preparing to bring a calendar recommendation forward for board approval or school years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. Staff would first like to ask the board to consider the following calendar parameters for consideration. With the board’s approval these parameters will be used to create a calendar recommendation to the board.
- School should not begin prior to August 1, including 180 day employees
- Students last day of school should be prior to the Memorial Day Holiday
- Should include a full week at the Thanksgiving Holiday for staff and students
- Spring Break should be the first full week in April following the first Sunday in April to align with metro districts
- Should include two full weeks for staff and students at the winter holiday break in December
- First semester should conclude prior to the winter holiday break in December
- Should include at least 1 teacher work day each semester (approximately midway through the semester)
- Should include late start Mondays
- Attempt to have balanced semester days
- Attempt to have 180 school days
MOTION STATEMENT:
I move that the Fulton County Board of Education approve the school year calendar parameters for the development of the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years.
