This message is intended for College Panhellenic officers and fraternity/sorority advisors, with a copy to NPC area advisors and chief panhellenic officers. This message contains resources for campuses with a deferred recruitment process or campuses who have begun planning for fall 2021 recruitments.

Dear College Panhellenic officers,

As you begin to plan for an unprecedented recruitment season this spring, we wanted to share additional information and resources with you to ensure you are prepared. In this email, you can read more about recruitment styles, gain virtual recruitment tips and tricks and view NPC resources that are available and crafted just for you and your upcoming virtual recruitment.

As shared in the Aug. 31 email to College Panhellenics, campuses who host a primary recruitment in spring 2021 should work with your NPC College Panhellenic area advisor to develop contingency plans, starting with plan A, a fully virtual recruitment. You may also think about plan B as a hybrid and plan C as in-person.

As always, we are here to help. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out to your area advisor, area advisor coordinator or Panhellenic support staff member at the NPC office.

Panhellenically,
Gretchen Foran
Director of Panhellenic Support
National Panhellenic Conference

Recruitment Styles and Virtual Implementation

If you have not already begun to work with your area advisor on a plan for virtual recruitment, the first step is to contact your area advisor. You can view your area advisor's contact information on your profile in FS Central here. The next step is to determine what recruitment style you will be using. There are currently three recruitment styles that you can choose from: fully structured recruitment, partially structured recruitment or continuous recruitment. You can learn more about recruitment styles here and assess your own Panhellenic’s recruitment style here.

Implementation Plans:

Technology Resources

After you have worked with your area advisor to determine what recruitment style you will be using, you will need to select a video conferencing platform (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet) and learn the necessary mechanics of a virtual recruitment. To learn more about Zoom recruitment best practices, you can view the following videos and resources: Additionally, we will be hosting a “Zoom 301” webinar on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. Eastern. This webinar will feature a fraternity/sorority advisor, College Panhellenic recruitment vice president and member organization staff member who hosted a fall primary recruitment virtually. They will be sharing their best practices and recommendations through a moderated panel style virtual program. Make sure to mark your calendar and register here. This webinar will be recorded and shared after for those who are not able to attend.

NPC Legislative Changes

As shared in the October College Panhellenic newsletter, there have been several legislative actions by the NPC Council of Delegates that will impact the implementation of recruitment. One special change to note is the Oct. 15 change to the Options in Determining Total  POLICY that states:

Options in Determining Total (2009, 2015, 2019, 2020) – POLICY
College Panhellenics can use one of the following methods to determine total:
1. Average or median chapter size (whichever is larger).
2. Midpoint between median and largest chapter size (the third quartile).
3. Largest chapter size (recommended for College Panhellenics with five or fewer chapters).
4. Largest chapter size plus 5-15 women.

Fall 2020 Total: All College Panhellenics must use the fall 2019 total for the fall 2020 total; unless the evaluation of total in fall 2020 results in a higher total than fall 2019.

Spring 2021 Total: All spring 2021 recruiting (deferred recruitment) College Panhellenics must use the spring 2020 total for the spring 2021 total unless the evaluation of total in spring 2021 results in a higher total than spring 2020. All other College Panhellenics will maintain the total established in fall 2020 unless the evaluation of total in spring 2021 results in a higher total.

Proviso: The paragraph beginning “Fall 2020 Total” will expire at the end of the fall 2020 academic term and the paragraph beginning “Spring 2021 Total” will expire at the end of the spring 2021 academic term.

To learn more about the rationale behind this policy change and view all other changes since July 2020, view the 2020 Legislative Handout here.

Already Complete Fall Recruitment?

NPC is looking to collect feedback from those who completed their fall primary recruitment process to help improve virtual experiences and support for spring recruiting campuses and determine what practices might remain for future recruitments. We invite campuses who have completed a fall primary recruitment to complete these surveys by Nov. 8. Access the surveys here for fraternity/sorority advisors and here for College Panhellenic officers. Please also share this survey with your recruitment counselors from this fall.
