Center City of Amarillo

Center City of Amarillo, Inc., began in 1991, when a group of concerned citizens joined together to preserve and revitalize Amarillo’s historic downtown area. Center City is a nonprofit organization and is recognized as a Texas and National Main Street City.

Center City is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Our headquarters is at 1000 S. Polk St. in the historic Bivins Building.

Our Vision: Amarillo’s Downtown will be a destination neighborhood that bridges the past and the future in Center City.

Our Mission: Center City of Amarillo, Inc., brings people to downtown Amarillo through organization, events, promotion, design and facilitation of economic restructuring.

Center City Mural Run – March 23, 2024

Imagine the Possibilities Tour will be held in May 2024.

High Noon on the Square will be held every Wednesday in June and July. Check under the events tab for the full schedule.

Jazztober is a free jazz concert on Tuesdays in October at 6:00 p.m. on the lawn of the historic Bivins Home at 1000 S. Polk St. in Center City. Free admission. Bring your own chair and picnic dinner.

Electric Light Parade will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024.  Go to the Events tab at the top of the page for more information.

City Center Programs

Center City’s mission is to make downtown a better place to live, work, play, learn and worship.  Programs include:
Façade Grants – Center City makes matching façade grants to businesses in the downtown area. 
         Boundaries for the program are:
         o   East   – the railroad tracks
         o   North   – the railroad tracks
         o   West   – Washington/Adams Street
         o   South   –Interstate 40
Historic Tours – Center City organizes historical tours of the downtown area for school and civic groups.
Partnerships – Center City is partners with other organizations in the downtown area with programs including the street banner program, streetscape initiatives and other special events.
