Biography

2022-2023: Cross Country – Irene continued to build on her legacy as ACU’s greatest XC runner in history during this, her final season on the course for the Wildcats. She started off the school year by winning the Big Country XC Festival over the strongest field in some time for the home opener and followed that with a win at the Lumberjack Invitational. She finished 3rd in the Chile Pepper XC Festival, followed by an 8th place finish in the Weis-Crockett Invitational (a Pre-Nationals race run on the same course as Nationals would later be held). Entering championship season, Irene would finish 4th in the WAC Championship race in Nacogdoches. Then a 5th place finish at the South Central Region Championship would secure her spot at the National Meet, where she would finish in 110th place in a field of 254 runners. This was an improvement of 15 places over her finish in the 2021 national meet.

2021-2022: Cross Country – she won the WAC XC championship, before finishing 4th in the South Central Region XC to qualify for nationals, where she finished 125th in a field of 256. Her time in winning the WAC championship (19:44.2 in the 6K) was the fastest time run in WAC history. Earlier in the year, she also won the Naimadu Classic and the UIW Invitational. Indoors – at the WAC championship, Irene finished 2nd in the 3K and 3rd in the 5K. Earlier in the season, she also won the Pittsburg State Inv 3K and the Charlie Thomas Inv in College Station, with a PR and school record time of 9:22.72 – breaking the former record held by Michaela Hackett. Outdoors – at a highly competitive WAC championship, Irene finished 4th in the 10K with a new PR and school record time of 34:04.82 (breaking the record held by Alexandria Hackett) and 6th in the 5K – her time in getting 6th in the race broke the former WAC championship record as the top 8 finishers all broke the record. She would continue the season to finish 26th in the NCAA West Prelim 5K. Earlier in the year, she enjoyed unprecedented distance success – winning the Texas Relays 5K, getting 3rd in the fast section of the Bryan Clay Inv 5K in California (running a PR time of 16:02.44 that also broke the ACU school record held by Alexandria Hackett), and placing 2nd in the 1500 at the Oliver Jackson Twilight in a PR time of 4:35.75.

2020-2021: Cross country – won the SLC XC championship, along with winning the UIW Winter XC inv title. Finished 115th at the D1 national XC meet, out of 256 runners. Indoors – at the SLC championship, Irene won the 3K and finished 3rd in the 5K, as well as winning the Corky Classic 3K in Lubbock earlier in the season. All T&F athletes can count this as a redshirt season due to the pandemic.  Outdoors – won both the 5K and 10K at the SLC championship. Also won the Michael Johnson Inv 5K and placed 3rd in the Texas Relays 10K.

2019-2020: Cross country – placed 31st in the SLC XC championship. Indoors – placed 34th in the SLC 3K. Outdoors - season cancelled due to pandemic and all T&F athletes can count this season as a redshirt season.
