HRSA’s Shortage Designation Modernization Project
Auto-HPSA National Update

Today, we updated automatically designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (Auto-HPSAs) nationwide and launched the online Auto-HPSA portal for you to submit facility-specific and/or supplemental data to be rescored.

To see your current scores log into the Auto-HPSA portal or visit the HRSA Data Warehouse at https://data.hrsa.gov.

Accessing the online Auto-HPSA portal:

  • If you already have a Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) Portal Account (i.e., you are a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) or Nurse Corps site contact), use your existing login credentials to log in here: https://programportal.hrsa.gov/extranet/landing.seam.
  • If you do not have a BHW Portal Account, you should have received an invitation email from BHW with the subject line “Create your BHW Portal Account.” You will need to register and activate your account before you are able to login. The link to register will expire 7 days from receipt.

Submitting rescore requests:

  • The deadline to guarantee that your rescore requests are processed before 2020 NHSC Loan Repayment Program (LRP) application cycle is November 1, 2019.
  • To maximize the amount of time that you have to use the portal to request Auto-HPSA rescores, we have pushed back the 2020 NHSC LRP application cycle. The cycle will now open in February 2020, rather than January 2020.

Important reminders:

  • Current NHSC participants and those awarded this year are not affected by the national update.
  • Auto-HPSA portal training webinars and other resources are available on the Shortage Designation Modernization Project webpage: https://bhw.hrsa.gov/sdmp.

If you have questions about the Auto-HPSA update, contact your Primary Care Office or email us at SDB@hrsa.gov.
